Now for the first time, we can offer you the silver drachm of King Antialkidas who ruled Bactria between 145-135 B.C. from Taxila (now Pakistan). Strategically situated on the ancient Silk Road trade route, the Bactrian kingdom flourished, blending elements of the Greek and Indian cultures. By Antialkidas' reign, nomadic tribes from Asia were invading, so he was among the last of the Indo-Greek kings.
To date, little is known about this mysterious king. A column called the Heliodorus Pillar, built by an envoy he sent to a king in India, mentions Antialkidas' by name. The column, discovered in the 1870s, and his beautiful silver portrait coins, are the only reasons we know about him today.
