In New Unused condition after more than 160 years, this obsolete note from the Civil War comes with unique history. Missouri was a border state with sympathies for both sides. On June 13, 1861, the Union Army claimed its capital Jefferson City. Having fled to Neosho, MO, Governor C.F. Fox Jackson signed an ordinance of succession on October 28, 1861. The next month, the Confederate States of America recognized Missouri as its 12th state. This $3 note features Jackson, flanked by battle flags and cannons. Liberty stands to his left, a hunter to his right. The denomination was printed in oversized green letters.
