Introduced in 1916, the beautiful 90% silver Standing Liberty quarter was designed by noted sculptor Hermon A. MacNeil. The obverse of the 1916 and early 1917 coins (Type 1) depicts Liberty standing in a gateway, wearing a gown but with her right breast exposed. Liberty would be "covered up" partway through 1917, and the Type 1 coins quickly became collector favorites. The reverse of the 1916-1930 Standing Liberty quarters features an impressive and artistic eagle in flight.
