Fine detailed engravings on this 2000 Uncirculated 1,000 Escudos Note honors Portuguese explorer Pedro Alvares Cabral who discovered Brazil in 1500. The nobleman and military commander is featured in profile on the note’s front. On the back is a caravela sailing ship, a small maneuverable vessel used for seafaring explorations. Vibrantly colored inks depict some of the plants and wildlife found in Brazil, including a fox, monkey and parrot, plus Cabral’s coat of arms. In 2002, the euro replaced the escudo as Portugal’s sole currency. Add this beautifully engraved and obsolete bank note to your world currency collection today!
