More About American Gold Eagle Coins
Since their initial release, American Gold Eagle coins have been minted in four denominations – $5 (1/10 oz.), $10 (1/4 oz.), $25 (1.2 oz.) and $50 (1 oz.). Each of these is struck in 91.67% fine gold. The obverse features sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens' inspired Liberty design (originally used the 1907-1933 gold double eagles). The original Type 1 reverse by Miley Busiek depicts a family of eagles. The Type 2 reverse, which debuted in 2021 on the series' 35th anniversary, features a close-up portrait of an eagle by Jennie Norris.
