Legal Tender Notes
Legal Tender Notes were first issued by the U.S. Treasury to pay bills incurred by the Union Army during the Civil War. Legal Tender Notes were printed from 1862 to 1971. In the eyes of the law, these Legal Tender Notes must be accepted for the payment of debts.
